All operatives must have received working at heights training.

Working at heights refresher training to be carried out at a minimum of every 3 years.

 

MEWP not to be used if damaged or poor condition.

 

MEWP not to be overloaded (check SWL) and never used as lifting appliance.

 

Equipment must be adequately serviced and maintained.

 

Harnesses to be clipped inside of basket. Lanyard to be of fall restraint type not fall arrest.

 

MEWP should not be used as a means of accessing another location, the operator or passengers must never climb out of the working platform whilst in the elevated position.

 

Material within the working platform is to be kept to a minimum. Rubbish and debris to be regularly removed from the

Good housekeeping practices must be maintained around the working area at all times.

 

When using access equipment consideration must be given to weather conditions e.g. high wind, rain, snow and ice.

 

This Risk Assessment must be read in conjunction with the Working at Heights Risk Assessment PRA 3.

Operatives, members of the public, contractors,

hit by falling tools/equipment which can cause serious injury/death.

Head protection to be worn by operatives and contractors. Hard Hat to have chin strap.

 

Toe-boards must be fitted on all working platforms.

 

Work area to be segregated with barriers or coned off to prevent unauthorised access.

As far as reasonably practicable cables to be diverted / buried, shrouded or protected by other means (in this order of priority).

 

If unable to divert, bury or shroud, the relevant service provider must be contacted to determine heights of cables and alternative method of protection provided.

 

Relevant protection to be put in place in accordance with the requirements of the cable owners.

 

Specific risk assessment to be carried out for any works being undertaken adjacent to or under cables.

Overturning of equipment

Equipment only to be used for access – not lifting or supporting.

 

Safe working load of equipment not to be exceeded. Take into account the weights of those using it.

 

Tyres must be appropriately inflated to the correct pressures.

 

Inspect ground conditions prior to positioning the equipment.

 

Outriggers must be used where fitted.

 

Never use the MEWP as a lifting aid or secure supporting ropes to any part of the equipment.
