Do

  • Only operate machine with the relevant certificate of competency.

  • Read and understood the operational manual.

  • Carry out all pre-user check before any operation. Particularly note any faults regarding machine motion, safety devices and cut-off switches.

  • Notify any unsafe defects to Cargo Team Leader.

  • Ensure you are physically capable to operate machine safely.

  • Fully trained on machine type.

  • Familiar with all means of escape provided for cases of emergency.

  • Wear full PPE.

  • Capable of assessing balanced/unbalanced loads.

  • Capable of assessing distance, heights and clearances.

  • Utilise tag lines where appropriate.

  • Utilise correct hand signals between banksman and operator.

  • Raise the safety lever prior to leaving the operator’s seat.

  • Face the machine and maintain 3 points of contact when mounting or dismounting.

  • Work within the working parameters as detailed in the manufacturers operating instructions.

Do Not

Operate machine without valid certification/basic training.

Operate machine without assessing the working area.

Operate machine under influence of drugs and alcohol.

Operate machine whilst still under training without a qualified operator present.

Operate blind lifts unless bankman is in control.

Leave machine unattended whilst fully operational.

Allow anyone to walk underneath the machine boom sections whilst operational.

Nobody to be lifted by the boom unless inside an authorised and tested safety device.

Utilise override switches to exceed the safe operating limits of the machine.

Use the steering column, control panel or joysticks as hand holds.

Jump from the machine. Always utilise ladders, steps, rails and handles provided to climb to and from the machine.

Exceed the SWL of the machine.

Do not carry any passengers unless there is a specific passenger seat fitted in the cab.

Specific Training Requirements:

  • Basic Training - through an accredited training provider training to the standards outlined in the L117 ACOP.

  • Specific job training - tailored to the needs of the organisation.

  • Familiarisation training - Familiarisation training is the third stage of training, which should be carried out on the job, under close supervision, by

someone with appropriate knowledge.
